Project Description

On February 9th 2023, the retired US / Mexican dual national, Maria del Carmen Lopez, was kidnapped. Soon after returning from her sister’s store, neighbours recall a van pulling up to the front of her house. Three men exited the van, grabbing Maria from inside and forcibly moving her into the waiting vehicle.

Federal agents, local police and other authorities soon arrived at the scene. The following day, the FBI advised Maria’s family that they would also be working on the case.

Around this time, the family received a call from the kidnappers. The kidnappers provided a ‘proof of life’ audio clip of Maria begging for help. They then requested an unattainable amount of money.

Following this initial call, the kidnappers stopped contacting the family.

The FBI has offered a $20,000 reward to anyone who finds her, but that is where the authorities’ help has ended.

Maria’s family is tirelessly fighting to shed light on her disappearance and receive updates from the lead investigator in Mexico, but they, too, are silent.

How does your donation help?
